What to see

Barcelona is packed with things to do, from beaches and pools to museums and art galleries. Here are some of our suggestions

Here is the official Barcelona Museum list. However we have some alternative proposals for you:

Alternative Museums

NOT your typical museums! below are some of the most unusual selections Barcelona has to offer.

Museu del Calçat (Shoe Museum). Plaça Sant Felip Neri 5, (933014533), reproductions and original pieces from the first through twentieth centuries including some shoes belonging to some very famous figures, closed Mondays.

Museu de la Xocolata (Chocolate Museum). Plaça Pons I Clrech, (932687878), traces the history of chocolate from its origins through its diffusion around the world, and displays a strange series of sculptures made out of chocolate, also a yummy cafeteria and a bookstore, closed Tuesdays.

Design Hub Barcelona
It is a project focused on all the aspects of the new changing panorama of design, thought up to be the nerve center of a network of people conserving, creating and consuming design. An operating system that aims to disseminate, organize, distribute, reflect on and, above all, connect people, ideas, objects and even places.

Museu de Corrosses Fúnebres (Funeral Hearse Museum). c/ Sancho de Avila 2, (934841700), a collection of funeral carriages and hearses used in Barcelona over the past three centuries, free admission, closed Sundays.

Museu de la Música (Museum of Music). Av/ Diagonal 373, situated in a beautiful modernist building, the museum houses a particularly good collection of guitars among other instruments.

Museo de Cera (Wax Museum). Pg de la Banca 7, open every day 10:00 to 22:00, located at the bottom of las Ramblas, tacky but fun at the same time.

Museu de l´Erótica (Erotic Museum).
Rambla, 96, open every day 10:00 to 24:00 (october - may: 11:00 to 21:00) The Museum of Erotica was created in the very heart of Barcelona with the clear intention of furnishing the city with a center of didactic information, both interesting and ludic, based on a monographic theme, a classic of humanity's history and culture:erotica.

City Views

Nice way to kill some time on a sunny day and get your bearings in the city.

Teleferic de Montjüic. (934430849) accessible via the Montjüic funicular, catch a fabulous view of the city from the sky in cable cars that run up the side of the mountain, stopping at the amusement park and the castle at the top.

Transborador Aeri. (933175527) these cable cars offer and even better view of the city and port as they run between Barceloneta and Montjüic, open 11:00 to 21:00 June through October and afternoons the rest of the year.

Funicular de Tibidabo. (932117942) a series of bus and tram take you up to the top of Tibidabo where you will find both an amusement park and a large church offering the most spectacular views of the city down to the Mediterranean.

Art Galleries


Calle Montcada. Well respected contemporary art galleries line this street, including Galaría Maeght, Galaría Contrast, and several galleries specializing in Dalí, Miró and Picasso prints. This is on the ame street as th 9/Born Studio

L'Eixample. Several independent galleries are located in the area where c/ Consell de Cent, c/ Balmes, y Rambla de Catalunya meet.

Cataluña is so amazingly varied that you can plan a different day-trip excursion for every day of the week! Here are our suggestions, everything from a relaxing weekend in the country or on the beach to a wild para-sailing trip in the Pyrenees.

Hiking and Extreme Sports

Centro Excursionista de Catalunya, a hiking club that organizes trips in the area, c/ Paradis 10, (933152311).
Probike, a mountain bike store that also organizes excursions, c/ París 128, (934197889).
Vértigo Cometas, a store devoted to selling kites and organizing kite-flying excursions to a beach 20km from the city, c/ Avenir 66.
Club Excursionistes Pirenaic, a para-sailing club that organizes excursions to the Pyrenees, av/ Portal de L´Angel 1, (933024239).
Federació Catalana d´Espeleología, a spelunking (cave exploring) club that arranges trips in the area, av/ Portal de L´Angel 38, (933180777).
Revolution Helicopter España, pricey helicopter excursions to the mountains that can include rapelling and hiking, p/ Llivia 77.

Camping

Sitges Campsite in Sitges (Cat. 2) Km. 38,6 de la C-246 (938941080) campground with many amenities including swimming pool open from 1/3 through 20/10.
El Toro Bravo just south of Barcelona proper, (936373462) campground with many amenities open year round.
